CSR Approach and Governance

Since its creation, Printemps has made a name for itself through its pioneering and resolutely committed spirit. In 1882, it was the first department store to establish equal pay for men and women in equivalent positions. Since then, the Group has stepped up its initiatives to promote more responsible retail to meet the changing expectations of its customers and society as a whole. Examples include the growing development of a second-hand offer, efforts to reduce its environmental footprint and partnerships with charitable associations.

Now a key player in fashion, luxury, beauty and lifestyle, the Printemps Group aims to continue inspiring its customers, visitors, employees and partners by offering them unique, positive and sustainable experiences.

"Our signature motto, “Printemps, a creator of unique, positive and sustainable experiences,” illustrates our vision of a civic and committed Group, respectful of its employees, the environment and its partners".

An approach rooted in three pillars

Today's social, labor and environmental challenges are having a major impact on the fashion and retail sectors. Their effects vary according to the Group's areas of action – import, export, distribution, own brand – and the location of its stores. In 2016, the Printemps Group therefore sought to precisely identify these challenges and define action levers commensurate with their complexity, while involving all the stakeholders in the process. This in-depth diagnosis has enabled us to structure a CSR strategy based on three pillars driven by action levers common to the Printemps, Citadium, Place des Tendances and Made In Design brands. Each brand, and then each store, applies this roadmap through concrete actions, as part of a proactive commitment, inspired by the principles of sustainable development and a determination to continue 160 years of history.

Pillar 1: a Responsible Group

Being a responsible Group means affirming our environmental commitment to reduce the direct impact of our activities on the planet: improving our raw materials and energy consumption, reducing waste and preserving biodiversity. It also means integrating CSR into our governance so that we are fully compliant with regulations while also respecting business ethics, with the right crisis prevention and management policies in place.

Pillar 2: an Inspiring Trendsetter

By inspiring all of its stakeholders – customers, brands, employees, suppliers and partners – the Printemps Group aims to enhance the positive impact of its actions. One example is the “Unis vers le Beau Responsable" label, created in 2021, which federates community of more than 500 fashion, accessory, beauty and home brands selected on the basis of demanding social and environmental criteria. The Group also illustrates its social commitment by rolling out unprecedented retail concepts like 7ème Ciel (space dedicated to second-hand luxury and designer goods). It is also currently implementing actions to promote youth and women's empowerment, heritage preservation, as well as inclusion and solidarity.

Pillar 3: a Thoughtful Employer

Our priority is to create the future of retail by cultivating our FORCE. This constant pursuit of agility, innovation, responsibility and excellence is based on a corporate culture focused on the well-being of our employees. As a thoughtful employer, the Group is committed to allowing each employee to develop their skills and advance their careers by encouraging diversity, inclusion, equal opportunity and training. This determination contributes to the personal and professional development of our teams, ensuring their loyalty.
